Persephone's Tale (Prologue)
Persephone laughed.
The day was bright, and the woods were dappled with golden sunshine. Ferns caressed her ankles as she picked her way through the trees. There was a rich, earthy scent to the air, and Persephone breathed it in deeply.
A few steps ahead, Leucosia pushed at an overhanging branch. The nymph stilled, and Persephone understood why. Beneath her friend’s arm, she caught sight of a lush, rolling meadow. The fields were dotted with thousands of wildflowers, which waved at them happily in the warm breeze.

An awful noise startled Persephone from her slumber. Several cracks ripped through the ground, travelling across the field as the earth split in half. Dirt billowed through the air, and Persephone shaded her eyes to see a shape emerge from the haze.
Clambering to her feet, she blinked as she heard the pounding of hooves. It was a rider that approached. Persephone’s pulse sped, and each heartbeat sent fear racing through her veins. Someone from the Underworld? This cannot be good.
